Hey Gerry ! Sorry to reply so late. I have been in New Mexico for a week without internet access.
I agree with you about the battery grips for the Canon cameras. You also have to get new batteries ! lol What is interesting is I have been shooting with a Canon 1DS where the grip is built in. SO this whole grip thing was something I had to get used to.
Now here is something ironic. I think the camera is TOO good. It does everything but wipe your beeeeeep lol. I mean you don't even have to be a technically good photographer to get a correctly exposed image ! But that is a whole different debate.
I'm still messing with the video part. The reality is for me, I couldn't care less about the video. But maybe my taste will change. It takes amazing photos, exposure is right on and like I said, it has sooooo many bells and whistles.
Thank you for your post buddy ! :-)

First of all - Happy New Year!

Great post. I still really want one, or two :) Even though there are some shortcomings, it is better than the 5D MarkI which I am shooting with at the moment. I am sure there are really brilliant reasons why this is not the case, but I think it would be nice to make the battery grips etc work with as many generations of body as possible. Having gone from the 20D to the 5D and at some point migrating to the 5DMark II it is a bit of a pain to have to get new grips each time when they have the same controls etc. I posted on my blog (http://hespeaks.hananexposures.com) back in April, after I went to hear Vincent LaForet speak about his career and about his experience in making Reverie before the 5DII had been released to the public. Despite the minor areas where improvements could be made, (like sound & being able to monitor levels etc) the results he produced with the camera are stunning, and if I woke up in the morning and there was one sitting outside my front door, I would be a mad happy camper :)

This review sounds about right. I suppose you haven't done much video with it yet though, as the on-camera mic is crap, and everything is manual focus at that point. None the less, I'm definitely enjoying the 5D Mark II, have been since the beginning of the year - certainly worth the investment.
