Canon 580EXII Outdoor Fashion Lighting
September 24th, 2009With the new purchase of my Canon 5DMark II I also bought a Canon 580EXII speed light. This combination is simply amazing ! I shot this in not so great lighting conditions but because of the solid power of the 580EXII I was able to over power the sun and still maintain details in the highlights because I used Hi Speed Sync mode.
If I didn’t tell you I used a speed light flash you would probably think I used some really elaborate lighting set up.
If your curious about the details & how I pulled this off, ask me

Hi Elaine,
Thank you for the compliment. I didn’t use any Photoshop actions. To achieve this tone I used Nik Color Efex Pro. I would love to share the settings with you but I forgot to save the settings lol. So stupid of me. But if you just play around you will find the settings you like.

You used the flash on camera. Don’t you?

Yep the flash was on camera which is rare for me. As you have seen in recent posts I typically mount it on a light stand with an umbrella. This situation I didn’t need to.

Looks good, a bit of a weird shadow going on on the left side of her foot/leg which also shows inbetween her legs. Would love to know the setup + cam/flash settings and how far you’re from the model with the flash here.

Is that up in the Ojai area? East of Ojai on the 150, “Happy Valley” I think they call the area. Looks familiar!
