Lighting Diagram For Swimsuit Photo Shoot At Night

July 31st, 2009

So this is the lighting diagram I promised to show you for this image of our model laying back on the log.

So as I said in a previous post I was right under the soft box and sometimes I was standing with my legs really wide to capture her at the perfect angle.  The soft box was roughly 8 feet up on a C-stand and tilted up so I didn’t blow out the log and also to throw some light on the beach sand in the background.

So as you can see a one light set up is all that was needed.  Pretty friggin easy.

how many watts and at what power was the strobe?

    Hi Antoine,
The pro 7B is a 1200 watt second pack I believe. I really don’t remember what the settings were. My assistants set all that. But that really is just experimentation.

Beautiful shot and love the contrast/tonality here.

Can you share what size the softbox here?

    Thanks!

    Hi Shahn,

The soft box was 6 feet so that would be considered extra large. I forgot to mention I also had the inner baffle inside as well to give the light more softness.

Is it possible to see more of the pix? I think the outcome is very good. Thanks for sharing the tricks. Even if the model is not present, the log itself is quite photogenic… and looks stunning in your setup.

JAs just a question mate, why is it pointinng UP? why ishte softbox pointing down at the model?

    Jason Christopher Reply:

Hi David ! I believe you are asking me why the soft box is pointed up a bit and not point down on the model. The reason the soft box, which is horizontal btw, is pointed up slightly is because I didn’t want too much light hitting the ground which would cause not enough light to extend beyond the model in the background. Basically it’s a lazy way of NOT having to use a flag to flag / feather the light that is hitting the bottom sand and log area lol.
