Behind the scenes fashion shoot
March 24th, 2009I just received this from the videographer. This shoot was back in Dec. 4th – 8th 2008. The client was Deliverance Poker. This was shot at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in a really nice hotel room. I used Profoto strobes with grid spots, Chimera soft box’s and my Canon 1DS. Enjoy !

In December of 2008 I was flown to Las Vegas to shoot an ad campaign for Deliverance Poker. I spent 4 days photographing many different scenes and situations with beautiful women among the glitz and glamor of Las Vegas. I had a great time and was driven to each location in a huge limo which I admit was cool. The fashion photography was different than what I normally shoot but that is what my client wanted and that is what they got.

that behind the scenes was awsome, it gives you an educated view on the photoshoot, i love behind the scenes stuff, im always curious to see how things are done, photography education is so expensive and so many pros arent willing to show or teach the art, thank you so much

Art, it is my pleasure to share with anyone and everyone. Any “pro” that is not willing to share information is not a pro in my view.
I started this blog because I want all of us photographers to become very skilled at what we do which will in turn keep our rates up where they should be so that we are paid fairly for what we do.
I could set up all the lighting and props etc., have you shoot the same model that I shoot and our shots will still come out totally different.
That is because it is NOT the technical skills that make a great photographer, it is your personal and personable skills that make you a great photographer. If you can’t relate to people and get a model who is a total stranger to trust you and let you invade their personal space, then I don’t care how amazing your lighting skills are, you will never shoot an evocative photo that anyone and everyone can relate to or connect with.
Thank you for your comments !

thank you, for that comparison , that makes so much sense. what do you do to get your models to trust you and to let you capture the best in them.

To get my models to trust me I talk to them while they are in make up and hair. I just ask them how long they have been doing this, where they have been, just make small talk and that will lead into different subjects. And just be yourself. Smile when you talk and be personable.
Then when you are ready to shoot you have already established a little bit of a bond. While you are shooting you keep encouraging the model that he or she is doing great, reinforce when they are doing something you love etc. Just remember to be a director and not just a guy pushing a shutter button.
