Hey Jason,
I think the speed is good. But the transitions are a bit too “smooth” and the different frames on the photos are a bit disturbing.
great photos for sure

I’ve been playing around with the idea of putting together something like this myself, but one of the issues which concerns me a lot in doing so is the use of music as a backing track.
There are hundreds of great slides shows on Youtube and pretty much all of them use commercial music as a backing track. But what are the implications of doing this? Is it OK to do this? What if a recording artist decided to use our images as background visuals for their music promotions on MySpace? Would we be looking for a licensing fee?

Hi Christian,
Thank you for the comment. Are you saying the transitions are too slow ? I don’t quite understand what you mean by too smooth. And the white borders are disturbing, meaning you would rather see no borders at all ?

HI Thorsten,
It’s funny you mention this because when I showed one of my friends this video he said youtube will probably eventually remove the video because I am using a song that is not mine. I actually had no idea this was not legal on youtube. He then told me there are a selection of songs that the public is allowed to use. Youtube has that list posted on their site.
I think the difference here is that I am not posting this video to make money. I’m not selling the video. It’s a fine line. I have many students ask me to use my photos for a project they are doing in school and I let them use them because they won’t be making money from the photos. We’ll see how long youtube keeps the video up and then I will have to choose from a selected list on their site.

Hi Jason,
I hear you on the not making money point and would tend to use that angle myself if challenged about something like this.
I didn’t know either that Youtube had a list of pre-approved music, so I did a little bit of digging. It’s not that immediately obvious on the homepage! But I came across a feature they call Audioswap (http://www.youtube.com/audioswap_about) which must be what your friend is talking about.
It also seems that there was some form of agreement between Youtube and WMG (Warner) that would allow users to use WMG published music in their videos and WMG would advertise on those videos, but it appears there was no revenue in it for Warner so they cancelled the agreement. I was wondering why I was seeing an increased number of videos where the audio track was muted by Youtube.

ya it kinda sucks but oh well, life isn’t fair. My buddy told me about a new site like youtube called Vimeo.com and so far they don’t restrict you from using any song you would like to use.
