head shot with two lights
October 22nd, 2008I apologize for not posting more often. I have been slammed with shooting, which is a good thing
Ok so here is a simple head shot. Many shooters hate shooting them because they are boring and they spend too much time trying to get the lighting too perfect without spending time on directing the model.
So here I used one medium soft box camera right and one strobe with just the reflector that attaches to it placed behind the model on the floor. You can experiment with your placement of the box depending on how much feathering you want or don’t want. I finally learned how to make lighting diagrams so check it out and let me know if it helps !

Just been looking through your web site,
Love it some amazing images on there very inspired by your work.
the latest diagram is super cool, I use natural light as much as possible on shoots but need to find out more about flash, so very helpful.
Your web site saved in my bookmarks and looking forward to seeing future images.
again amazing work, love it.

This is wonderful! thanks so much for showing this. But I have a question… when I point my light to the backdrop, i can acutally see the light range in the photo’s I took. It wasnt soft. what did i do wrong. Should the light point directly onto the back or point away??

It’s wonderful to me what can often be achieved with just one or two lights. Thanks for this post and the super-helpful diagram!
