back lit fashion with flair

July 7th, 2008

For this shot I used the sun to back light the models and my assistants used the large oval reflector to front light them.  Shoot low up close and wide.  I used a 28mm lens on this and was about 5 feet from the models.  It creates a sense of surrounding.  This is an editorial look.

You’re an inspration. I finally know how to make the face of the models light up. It’s the Reflector! :) Thanks JC

    Hi Dietrich,

Thank you so much ! I just used my in camera meter set on center-weighted. I over exposed from the correct reading by 1/3 – 1 stop by bracketing.

Thank you for visiting my blog ! :-)

    Jason,

Love these editorial shots, and it’s great to read your tips. I’m curious on the reflector, though. Is it simply a white one, or some variant of silver/shinier material? Only reason I ask is because the highlights on the legs… or on second thought was there just lotion on the skin to make ‘em pop?

Great work, just discovered your blog, but I’ll be bookmarking it :)

    Hi Joey,

Thank you for the compliment ! :-) Actually for the first time ever I used a very large 6 foot oval GOLD reflector. The highlights on the legs was a very shiny lotion my make up artist applied. The only reason I used a gold reflector on this was because I wanted a subtle warm tone and in Photoshop I actually toned down the gold look a bit.
