All other classes will be held at BelleVarado Studios. This is a great opportunity to learn in 6 weeks what took me many years to learn. There will be actual photo shoots with agency models, make up and hair. Work on updating your portfolio and also very important, learn the business of being a fashion photographer. Learn how to cast, be your own art director, selecting and keeping a good team together. For more information and registration visit The Julia Dean Photo Workshop.

I’m begining to notice how you use natural lines in your composition along with your models pose to infuse life into your images. Am I reading more into it then there is?

Ya that would be a good observation. If I see an opportunity to incorporate natural leading lines in shot then I do it. It makes for an interesting shot.

HI Dave,
Thank you for the compliment !
This shot was a huuuge challenge. We shot this out in Palm Springs in July. The temp was 115 and I don’t know what the wind speed was but I can tell you I did not use any fans. At the time I weighed 190 and the wind was almost knocking me over.
So the lighting: I had 3 assistants place three Profoto strobes around the models. My key light was placed camera right of the model on the right, fitted with a magnum Profoto reflector, another strobe was placed camera left to the model on the left fitted with a Mola reflector and another strobe was placed camera left towards the back of the models also fitted with a Mola reflector. Of course each C stand had like 50 pound sand bags on them lol.
We discussed many different ways to light this shot but we had to keep in mind that the wind would blow an umbrella away, or a soft box. We discussed using large 5 foot square mirrors but those would get blown away. So we came up with just using strobes. We knew the Magnum and Molas were not light weight so we would be fine there. Then we used heavy sand bags and we were fine
