Hi Jason

just a quick update on the new lens, which I only managed to get my hands on the night before the actual shoot thanks to a lousy online store! Anyway, I'm seriously impressed with the lens, despite the lack of practice and having the time to work out the best way to use it (with regard to manual vs auto focus and infinity focus etc.) and the new experience of zooming with my feet... lol!

Literally shot only yesterday but once I've got the final shots I'll whizz you over a link if you're interested in seeing the results.

Cheers again.

Thanks Jason, the fact that you were 4 feet from the model is good to know and about a distance I like. I'm using the 24-105 IS F4 L at the moment that covers most of what I shoot so the new lens has to be a good investment and appears it will be a good choice. I mainly use a beauty dish or hard light but will give the brolly a go, it certainly works here!

Hi Brian,
Thank you for the compliment. First of all the lens is a great lens. I always get clean crisp sharp photos. Canon makes great glass.
I have never had a problem with perspective distortion so put that out of your mind. I use this lens for all my beauty and have never had a problem.
I was standing about roughly four feet from the model. She was sitting on a bar stool and I was standing on a full apple box.
I just placed the umbrella so that I wasn't blocking the light. I never am too concerned with that. You just work around that if it becomes a problem.
In my private work shops for photographers I focus on many ways to shoot beauty. There are so many different light modifiers you can use depending on the effect you are going for. But a great macro lens is number one.

Lovely close ups! I'd be interested to know at what distance you were from the model in these, I'm looking at this lens myself for close up beauty but I'm hearing that the 100mm close up can cause perspective distortion and put you in a position where you are blocking your light?

Hi Jason,
Fantastic shot! Was the background lit by the fall off from the small umbrella?
